A section of a London Tube line has been closed after contractors drilled a hole through the roof of an underground tunnel.

Central Line services have been suspended between Marble Arch and White City after masonry fell on the track outside Shepherd”s Bush station.

Transport for London (TfL) apologised for the closure and said engineers are assessing the area.

The disruption is expected to last for “another couple of hours”.

The contractors were thought to be working on an extension to the Westfield shopping centre.

TfL operations director Peter McNaught said: “We are working hard to resolve the problem as soon as possible”.
