A solicitor who was stabbed though the heart by his new wife had been warned ‘get away’ by colleagues, a court has heard.

Criminal defence lawyer David Edwards, 51, died when he was stabbed with a kitchen knife by new wife Sharon, 42, after the pair returned from Majorca, Manchester Crown Court was told.

Edwards was described as ‘domineering’ and ‘possessive’. The jury was told that Edwards beat her husband throughout the course of their brief relationship.

Christopher Hall, a former colleague of Mr Edwards, told the court he had warned the solicitor to ‘get away and get to his parents… he said she wouldn’t let him.’

‘I asked him many times; he “fell down the stairs”. He walked into a door on at least two occasions. One occasion, a garage door had come up and hit him,’ Mr Hall told the court.

‘He once confided in me that Sharon had assaulted him. I think it was her elder daughter who had called the police.’

Kathleen Hurst, who was Mr Edwards’ neighbour of seven years, said that when the defendant moved in she noticed the ‘atmosphere change’.

It became argumentative. It is a quiet close where we live and we don’t have much noise, but in the night time we could hear arguing going on from the house,’ she said.

Edwards denies murdering her husband on 23 August, 2015 at their home in Chorley, Lancashire, following a night of drinking in which she allegedly stabbed him for the first time. He sustained a further, fatal, injury the next day.
