A mother who claimed she was abducted and raped by four black men has been jailed for making it all up.
Leiha Artman, from Muskegon, Michigan, claims she was abducted when the men stopped to ask her for directions while she was in the driveway of her home in March.
She said she was then thrown in the boot of their car, beaten and sexually assaulted.
While she was missing, her boyfriend received pictures of her in which she appeared gagged, bound and bleeding from the head.
But on Wednesday, Artman admitted to making up the kidnap story and was sentenced to one year in jail.
Her partner, who did not want to be identified, claims that she had been forced into admitting making a false report but maintained she was raped and beaten.
He said she made up the story because she feared her real attacker would later punish her if he was incriminated.
He told DailyMail.com: ‘All I know is that I woke up to some very, very brutal pictures.
‘She did make up a story saying it was four black men but, at the end of the day, she did get really, really hurt by someone.
‘She is a good woman and a good mother. She was a heroin addict that needed help and rehab.’
The boyfriend found Artman ‘bleeding’ and ‘really hurt’ in a street near her mother’s home on March 29, two days after she said she was kidnapped.
He took her to a hospital, where she was interviewed by police while receiving treatment.
Yet it is not clear whether officers believed she was attacked at all.
