In the clip – filmed in St. Petersburg – Putin, 64, tells a table of concerned journalists the reasons for Russia”s behaviour over the past few months.
During a speech where he also spoke of a potential second cold war, he started: “Listen to me. We are all adults at this table.”
He then firmly tells the journalists that he hopes they will report what he says accurately before dissecting the potentially world-destroying weapons that Russia and America possess.
Putin continues: “Major global conflicts have been avoided in the past few decades due to geostrategic balance of power, which used to exist.
“Where”s the threat? There is no Iranian nuclear threat.”
He then goes on to describe the nuclear weapons infrastructure between the global powers before adding: “I think this is gravely dangerous. I not only think that, I am assured of it.”
The video was filmed during the St. Petersburg International Forum a few months ago but has now surfaced with full translations online.
Viewers of the clip – which has racked up thousands of hits – offered up mixed reactions.
One YouTube user wrote: “I think the reason for no major wars is due to trade.”
And another commented: “This is the first time I”ve been seriously worried about all this. I think it will happen really soon. Perhaps mid-November.”
Talk of a third world war has been rife recently.
