One person has been killed and six others injured in a chemical plant explosion in Germany, authorities said.
Smoke can be seen billowing from the Chemical plant of the BASF site in Ludwigshafen, western Germany.
Several people were missing and others were injured after an explosion at a chemical plant at BASF’s headquarters, the firm said.
Residents in parts of Ludwigshafen, where BASF is based, and Mannheim, on the other side of the Rhine river, were advised to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows closed.
Dramatic pictures from the scene show fire fighters battling the huge blaze.
The site, on a river harbour in Ludwigshafen, is used to unload flammable liquids and liquefied gas.
Precise figures on the numbers of injured and missing are yet to be provided.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the explosion.
