A young teenager ‘accidentally’ hung himself in a live video online after teammates allegedly ‘bullied him’ for making them lose while playing League of Legends.
Gustavo Detter, 13, from San Vincente in Spain, was reportedly logged in to the online multiplayer game with his friends at the time of the tragedy.
After his chosen squad lost the game however, his friends reportedly urged him to ‘suffocate’ himself – a forfeit they decided the person who caused the loss should carry out at the end of the game.
Detter then allegedly agreed to ‘suffocate’ himself and grabbed hold of a cable that was attached to a hook in the ceiling.
However, the forfeit backfired when the boy wrapped the rope around his neck.
Attached on the other side to a heavy punching bag, the weight pulled the cable up and the boy was asphyxiated.
According to reports, the schoolboy was still connected to his webcam at the time of the incident, so it was aired to his friends.
One of his teammates called the boy’s cousin, who was in the house, and informed her that Gustavo had fainted.
When she reached his bedroom, the teenager was unconscious with the cable wrapped around his neck.
He was rushed to Municipal Hospital of San Vicente in a critical state, before being transferred to Ana Costa Hospital in the nearby city of Santos.
However he died a day later.
The case is currently being investigated by police.
