The cost of living rose in September by more than it has in nearly two years.

Compared to a year before it was up by 1%, the highest rate of inflation since November 2014, pushed up by petrol, clothes and hotel prices.

The Office for National Statistics said so far there was “no explicit evidence” the lower pound was the reason for rising prices.

But as our economics correspondent Andy Verity reports, weakness in the pound could lead to further inflation and a higher price for your coffee.
