Fury as darts star Eric Bristow appears to mock victims in football abuse row

The darts player, remembered for his iconic clash with Bobby George in 1980 has described footballers as “wimps” and darts players “tough guys” in relation to the unfolding sexual abuse row over coach Barry Bennell.

He added that he bet “the rugby boys were OK”.

Several have condemned the former I”m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here contestant. 

Jeremy Vine wrote: “a) Footballers bravely speak about childhood abuse they suffered (b) Thousands of people express solidarity and sympathy (c) Eric Bristow.”

Twitter user Sarah added: “If @ericbristow has either his @SkySports contract or his MBE by the end of the week, I”ll be more disgusted than I am right now.”

Bristow will struggle to make a U-turn on his comments, as his profile states: “All thoughts, predictions, comments and opinions are 100% Eric”s.”

After hundreds retaliated to slam the athlete, who recently starred in a , he simply wrote “trouble is nowadays u [sic] can”t tell the truth.”
