Man with axe dies after being shot by police

A man shot by police amid reports he was ‘running around with an axe’ has died.

Officers from Humberside Police shot the 31-year-old in Hull, where reports suggested the man was attacking a car with the axe.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) confirmed the man, who has not been named, has since died in hospital.

He was shot near Hull city centre this morning.

IPCC associate commissioner Tom Milsom said: ‘Our thoughts are with the man’s friends and family, and all those affected at this very difficult time.’

Earlier, it was reported that the man had been shot twice.
