A man’s body has been found dead in a graveyard where serial killer Stephen Port left the bodies of his victims.
Police are treating the death of the man, whose body was found in St Margaret’s Church in Abbey Green, as unexplained.
The man, in his fifties, was found unresponsive by officers yesterday morning and he was later pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place later.
A spokesman confirmed today that investigations continue and no arrests have been made.
The discovery comes just days after Port was sentenced to life in prison for the rape and murder of Jack Taylor, Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari and Daniel Whitworth.
The 41-year-old stalked his victims on dating sites and apps, including Grindr, before plying them with drinks at his flat.
The drinks, it later transpired, were laced with fatal amounts of the drug GHB so that he could rape them while they were unconscious.
He then dumped their bodies in or near a graveyard within just 500 metres of his flat in Barking before concocting an elaborate cover-up.
