The fight – in the Republic of Buryatia – was so fierce it led to the disbanding of an entire hockey club.

The assault was also captured on an action camera attached to ref Nikita Tikhonov’s helmet.

The referee had called a 10-minute penalty during the amateur match between rival clubs in Russia.

But a player on the offending team was pretty unhappy with the decision.

Despite being told to calm down, he continued to swing his stick at the ref, hitting him in the head.

He later delivered a savage punch to the man’s face while still arguing over the penalty.

Tikhonov was left with multiple injuries after the brutal assault.

According to local reports, the Disciplinary Committee of Hockey Federation of the Republic of Buryatia met on Wednesday night to discuss the violent outburst.

They decided to ban the player in question, Sergei Petrov, from the league.

His team has also been broken up after the scandal this week.

Petrov’s teammates will now be available to other teams on a transfer list – but two of them have also been suspended for five games.

Earlier this week horror footage emerged of an incredibly violent attack on a woman sat at a restaurant.
