Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon, has been medically evacuated from the South Pole.

The 86-year-old former astronaut fell ill while visiting the US Antarctic Program’s research centre and left on an evacuation flight.

He is in a stable condition, according to the White Desert tour company, and is being looked after by a doctor.

The National Science Foundation said Mr Aldrin was ‘ailing’.
