For the second night in a row viewers were left disgruntled at the lack of balance when discussing Donald Trump”s policies.
Among tonight’s guests were Ambassador Dennis Ross, Special Middle East Coordinator to Democrat President Bill Clinton – who also served as a special adviser to Trumps’ defeated presidential rival Hillary Clinton.
One Twitter user wrote: “#Newsnight asking Democrats who they want Trump to appoint his cabinet. Kind of pointless. The Democrats lost across the board.”
Another tweeted: “#Newsnight interviews yet another ex Democrat Ambassador to denounce #Trump appointees! Yawn!”
Also on the programme was Kelly Jane Torrance, Deputy Managing Editor of the Weekly Standard magazine, who started the interview by saying: “No, I didn’t vote for Donald Trump!”
Ms Torrance found herself repeatedly agreeing with Evan Davis’ line of questioning, meaning the supposed discussion did not have any opposing points of view.
One Twitter user neatly summarised: “Their guest turned out not to be a Trump supporter so all their “adversarial” questions are not so. Lots of agreement.”
She even asked host Evan Davis: “Would you be part of a conman’s administration?”
Speaking about Trump supporters Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich and Chris Christie, Ms Torrance said: “They are not strong cabinet picks. Trump always says he picks the best people, so he had to go outside of his group of core Republican supporters to tap for some of these roles.”
Rudy Giuliani was not popular with the programme’s next guest either, with Mr Ross saying he did not feel Rudy Giuliani had what it takes to become the US Secretary of State.
He described the ideal candidate as being “someone who’s serious, someone who has gravitas, and someone who has understanding of America’s position in the world”.
“Mitt Romney would fit that… Petraeus would fit that”, but when asked about former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, Mr Ross said: “I’m not so sure”.
He added: “Early on it was clear that Giuliani seemed to be a favourite, but whether he is still a favourite remains to be seen.”
One viewer tweeted: “#newsnight More #PresidentTrump bashing do they really think they will change anything?”
