A thief stole a woman’s handbag as she sat breastfeeding her baby in a supermarket.
Hilary Williams-Smith from Fillongley in Warwickshire was nursing her 11-month-old daughter in the clothing section at Sainsbury’s in Nuneaton when her bag went missing.
CCTV shows a woman rummaging through the bag before removing the purse, which contained cash, cards and gift vouchers.
Staff frantically began searching for the bag, which was found shortly after by a cleaner stashed among some clothes.
Hilary said: ‘I was just so disgusted really, it’s just a horrible, horrible feeling to know that somebody has taken it, someone has got no morals to do it’
‘I had gone in to do some shopping and I had my baby daughter with me who woke up and wasn’t very happy so I decided to feed her. They have got a seat in the clothing section so I just sat down feeding her. I put my bag down next to me on the floor then suddenly I realised when I got up and my bag wasn’t there anymore.
‘I was frantically calling out ‘where has my handbag gone?’
She added, ‘The staff couldn’t do enough to help me, they were helping with my baby, helping with the police, they even gave me a bunch of flowers to say sorry even though it wasn’t their fault.
‘Every member of staff on the shop floor was on the case, there were customer services, security, everybody, they all went above and beyond.
‘They obviously felt really upset that it had happened, they were quite shocked to see that somebody could do that.’
Warwickshire Police has asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 176 of November 22.
